The couple printed 200 posters with contact de- tails, which were taped to gates, posts and shop windows.
They have spent 12 hours a day hunting for the dog — covering a ten-mile radius around their home in Thirsk, North Yorks.
The pair marked each poster on a map so they could remove them once Pastis, three, was found.
But a local ripped them down and mailed them back in a padded bag with an anonymous note. It read: “There is a substantial collection of plastic litter which has been slowly degrading and causing plastic residue (A4 sleeves, tape, cable ties) to litter the countryside.
It’s dead and therefore it’s time to remove your detritus.

“This sort of trash does not decompose and cable ties and the perforated strip on A4 sleeves are a hazard to wildlife.”
It added: “If a dog goes missing on 8th December the chances of its return after two weeks is extremely limited.
“It’s either not coming home, by choice; it’s been stolen or it’s dead and therefore it’s time to remove your detritus. Over the past two weeks I have removed possibly twenty and binned them — wet, illegible and now somewhat pointless.”

The writer then detailed council rules on flyers.
Recruitment consultant Valerio, 44, said “This letter crushed us but we won’t be intimidated — we have printed more posters.”
He informed police, who say they are investigating.
Aurora, 45, said: “Whoever it is clearly doesn’t have a dog. It’s so harsh and upsetting.”
The pair — who have another rescue dog Guinness — say they won’t give up searching for Pastis.
