PUTRAJAYA: Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin will lead a delegation to the 150th Session of the Executive Board of the World Health Organisation (EB WHO), which will, among others, discuss immunisation and tuberculosis.
Also in the delegation for the meeting to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from Jan 24 to 29 are Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah and other senior officers.
Khairy is scheduled to deliver the country statement as well as intervention statement on the agenda of the meeting.
This includes the Global Strategy for Tuberculosis Research and Innovation, Immunisation Agenda 2030, WHO Global Strategy for Food Safety and the Road Map for Neglected Tropical Diseases 2021-2030.
Malaysia has been appointed as an EB WHO member, and will be representing the Western Pacific region for a period of three years starting from May last year to May 2024 with other WHO executive board members.
In a statement reported by Bernama, the ministry said discussions would centre on commitments, policies, programme implementation status and the direction of the health sector which had been agreed upon by consensus under the WHO.
“Malaysia will also highlight other significant health issues that not only involve the coun- try but also member countries of the Western Pacific region,” it said.
The ministry said the EB WHO meeting would also serve as a platform that provided space for further consultation and discu- ssion with other executive board members in the interest of global health.
