PETALING JAYA: The King has been undergoing health checks and follow-up treatment at the National Heart Institute's (IJN) Royal Ward since Saturday (Jan 22), says Istana Negara.

The palace said this was a follow-up to intervention treatment for his knee joints and ankle, which Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah underwent in September 2020.

Comptroller of the Royal Household for Istana Negara Datuk Pengelola Bijaya Diraja Datuk Indera Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said on Sunday (Jan 23) that the treatment was postponed due to the Covid-19 standard operating procedure implemented at all hospitals, including IJN.

“On Sept 24, 2020, the King underwent an intervention treatment after an MRI showed sporting injuries to the knee joints and ankle,” he said.

“The King’s health is generally good and not alarming. He will also undergo a respiratory examination at IJN,” said Ahmad Fadil in the statement.

The King will return to the Palace after his treatment is completed, he added, saying that the public is urged to pray for the King’s speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah was also seen arriving at IJN at 2.50pm on Sunday.
