KULAI: Incumbent Sedili assemblyman Rasman Ithnain will not be nominated to contest if he is found guilty of sexual harassment.
Johor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) information chief Mohd Solihan Badri said the party was leaving the case to the police and that the matter was still under investigation.
“The case is under police investigation. If he is proven to be guilty, we will act accordingly.
“We will not take a candidate who is proven guilty,” said Mohd Solihan, who is the former Tenang assemblyman.
He said this when speaking to the media after launching the Chinese New Year Road Safety Campaign at the Puspakom building in Senai on Saturday.
On Jan 17, a woman in her 20s claimed she was sexually harassed by Rasman on more than one occasion.
Rasman denied the accusation, claiming that it was a political conspiracy and an attempt to tarnish his reputation.
He won the Sedili seat on an Umno ticket in the 14th General Election in 2018 but later defected to Bersatu.
