KUCHING: Sarawak will set up a new entity called Invest Sarawak to facilitate investments in the state, says Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

       The Chief Minister said Invest Sarawak will be established under the state's International Trade and Investment Ministry as a one-stop centre to coordinate the prerequisites for investments in the state.

       "We want to provide easy access for people to invest in Sarawak. The allocation of land, power, water supply and other requirements will be coordinated by Invest Sarawak.

       "That will make it easier for investors to come," he said at the Sarawak Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2021 here on Monday (Jan 24).

       Abang Johari said the state government was committed to create an ideal climate for investment through business-friendly policies and initiatives to shore up the confidence of local and foreign investors.

       He added that it is vital for Sarawak businesses to invest in projects in the state if it is to be developed by 2030.

       "My government will step up our efforts in promoting entrepreneurship and investment among Sarawakians who are keen to develop and implement their projects," he said.

       Abang Johari also called on the local business community to participate in the state's digital economy initiatives.

       This includes making use of the state's digital infrastructure to add value to their businesses, he said.

       "Politicians and civil servants can provide the direction and framework for the economy but it is the private sector that must do the hard work of getting things moving," he added.
