SEREMBAN: A former candidate for a parliamentary seat in Negri Sembilan has been remanded to assist investigations into a murder.

       The 55-year-old woman, who is alleged to have stabbed her husband to death at their bungalow in Rasah Kemayan near here, has been remanded for seven days.

       Seremban OCPD Asst Comm Nanda Maarof said police obtained the remand order on the housewife, who had once worked as a lecturer at a private university, from a Magistrate’s Court here.The order was signed by assistant registrar Emysuriana Muhammad Subry.

       The suspect was brought to court at about 10.15am yesterday clad in purple and orange lock-up attire.

       Also present in court were some of her family members.

       The suspect allegedly stabbed her husband, also 55, in the kitchen of their home at about 4.11pm last Sunday. The victim was a retired accountant.

       In a statement yesterday, ACP Nanda said the victim was stabbed in the chest and waist.

       He added that police received a call about the incident from the victim’s 18-year-old daughter.

       The couple has four children, two of whom reportedly witnessed the incident.

       ACP Nanda said early investigations indicated that the motive for the incident was related to financial problems.

       Police have also seized a sharp object at the scene.

       The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
