KUALA LUMPUR: A nationwide anti-drug operation saw the bust of 367 drug dens.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Comm Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the operation, which ran from Jan 21 to 23, saw the arrest of 5,200 people for various drug offences.

“All are aged between 13 and 60 years old and over 129 suspects are foreigners. Of that, 942 were drug pushers with several below the age of 18.

“This operation, dubbed Ops Tapis, was conducted nationwide involving all police contingents. We will continue doing these operations at least once a month moving forward because we want consistency, and not do this once every three to four months,” he said at a press conference at Bukit Aman on Tuesday (Jan 25).

The operation saw the majority of the raids, 69 in total, in Selangor.

A combined total of 212.6kg of drugs were seized, amounting to RM3,587,324 in value.

Among the drugs seized included 5.01kg of heroin, 30.2kg of syabu and 53.42kg of ganja.

       Three firearms were also seized.

“One was a revolver with three bullets in Perak. Two handmade rifles were seized in Sarawak and Negri Sembilan.

“We focus on enforcement but combating drugs is a joint effort involving other agencies such as the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and NGOs that focus on rehabilitation. Drugs are still the country’s number one enemy," he said.
