The car of Congresswoman Cori Bush was hit by gunfire in St Louis, according to reports.

Ms Bush was not in the car at the time of the shooting on Saturday morning, and she was reportedly not believed to be the target of the shooting.

When approached by local news 5 On Your Side, Ms Bush said in a statement: “Like far too many of us in St Louis, experiencing gun violence is all too familiar."

"Thankfully no one was harmed. But any act of gun violence shakes your soul," she added to the outlet.

It is the second time Ms Bush has said her car was struck by by bullets in St Louis after tweeting out photos of her car showing a damaged wheel, handle and mirror.

At that time, she said she was committed to taking us from “surviving St Louis” to “living it”.

On Thursday, her statement said that "no one should have to fear for their safety here in St Louis”.

“That is exactly why our movement is working every day to invest in our communities, eradicate the root causes of gun violence, and keep every neighbourhood safe,” she said.

The latest report comes after Pennsylvania Democratic Mary Gay Scanlon was carjacked at gunpoint in a park in Philadelphia. She escaped unscathed and police arrested five suspects.

In Chicago, Democrat State Senator Kimberly Lightford and her husband were carjacked at gunpoint in December.

In reacting to the recent spate of Democrats being victims of crime, Fox News guest Joe Imperatrice said the lawmakers need to be victims of crime to wake up and do their jobs.

“The harsh truth is we need these lawmakers to be victims, we need them to understand when the worst situation possible hits them, and then they can turn around and say wow, maybe this is an issue, maybe I need to wake up tomorrow and do my job and start changing things for the better,” the Blue Lives Matter founder said on America Reports.

“That’s how it’s going to happen and I’m not … praying that any of these people get hurt or harmed, but they need to see first hand how bad the streets really are.”
