MELAKA: A 23-year-old factory operator was killed instantly after a pile of sheet glass weighing about five tonnes collapsed on him at a factory in Jasin, near here.
Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Mispani Hamdan identified the victim as Muhammad Umar Mohd Shadid from Tangkak, Johor.
He said the police received a distress call at 8.10am on Wednesday (Feb 9) and rushed to the site at Lipat Kijang Industrial Park before finding the man pinned under the pile of sheet glasses.
DSP Mispani said from the preliminary findings, police believe the pile, weighing about 5.6 tonnes, killed the victim on the spot.
"The victim was about to lift a support pillar on the pile in a bid to arrange the glasses inside containers. He died due to multiple body and head injuries," he added.
