A ONE-YEAR-OLD girl has tragically died just days after a horror two-car crash that killed a woman in her 40s.

       The tot had been travelling in a grey Fiat 500X when it collided with a blue Mini driven by the late woman in Newport, Shropshire on Saturday.

       She was rushed to the paediatric major trauma centre at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in a critical condition following the fatal smash.

       Hero bystanders - an off-duty paramedic and an off-duty firefighter - performed CPR on the youngster until emergency crews arrived.

       The 19-month-old then sadly passed away on Monday after succumbing to her injuries.

       A man and woman she had been travelling in the same car with were left trapped with multiple injuries.

       Their condition is not believed to be life threatening.

       The other driver, in her 40s, was declared dead at the scene on the A518 New Trench Road near Telford.

       West Mercia Police have now launched an appeal following the tragedy at around 6.20pm on Saturday.

       A spokesperson said: "Officers continue to appeal for witnesses and ask anyone who was travelling on the A518 New Trench Road at the time and saw the incident, or has dash-cam footage to get in touch with police.

       "Our thoughts remain with the families at this difficult time.

       "The collision happened on Saturday 12 February at about 6.20pm on the A518 New Trench Road, and involved a blue Mini and a grey Fiat 500X.

       "Sadly the driver of the mini, a woman in her 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the Fiat were all taken to hospital; two adults with serious injuries and a 19-month-old who is in a critical condition.

       "Police would also like to thank members of the public who assisted with first aid at the scene until the emergency services arrived."
