PETALING JAYA: It was a tearful last day of work for Siti Nur Amira Rosli but it was also one that won the hearts of 250,000 social media users. The video of her emotional farewell with her employer, a Chinese, has gone viral.
In the video, the tearful 25-year-old is seen embracing her boss on her final day at a company in Kota Damansara here.
The caption in the post reads: “When you are forced to leave the best boss who never scolds you but always praises you and treats you like her own child...” as the Shila Amzah song Memori Tercipta (Memories Made) plays.
In an interview with mStar, Star Media Group’s Bahasa Malaysia news portal, Amira said she considered her Chinese boss a family member and will forever be appreciative of her two-year stint there, which was why she decided to record the moment.
“On my final day of work (Feb 10), my boss gave me a Pandora ring and I broke down,” she said, adding that she did not expect the video to become a hit.
Amira commended her employer for treating all members of her staff well, which she said led to a lasting bond among them.
The video received more than 250,000 views on TikTok in just 14 hours after it was uploaded with netizens applauding the interracial employer-employee relationship.
Relating how her first job came about, the Universiti Utara Malaysia graduate said it started with her internship at the company in February 2020.
In May that year, she was absorbed into a permanent position.
“I felt overjoyed and fortunate as I did not expect to get hired. It’s not often that we get such opportunities so I grabbed it instantly,” she said.
She accepted the position of a secretary, even though she specialised in human resources.
“It was tough working in a completely different field but my boss was supportive from day one.
“Whenever I made mistakes, she would say it was okay and there was room for improvement,” she said.
Amira quit the job last week after receiving an offer to work in her chosen field and to further her career development.
She also has a word of advice to those currently seeking jobs.
“Keep searching and never give up. Make sure your resume is updated accordingly and apply for vacancies where available.
“Send up to 100 applications if you must. Who knows? You might get lucky with some of them.”
