IPOH: Police have arrested six men in five drug raids conducted in Perak and Negri Sembilan.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said three of them were arrested in Perak while the remaining were detained at Negri Sembilan on Feb 13 and Feb 14.
“The modus operandi for this syndicate was to use a house in Meru, Ipoh here as a lab to process drugs. We believed that they started in the middle of last year.
“During the raid, we seized a total of 9.42kg of heroin and 1.14kg of methamphetamine worth RM167,268.00,” he said during a press conference at Perak police headquarters here on Wednesday (Feb 16).
Comm Mior added that police also confiscated lab equipment, five cars and pieces of jewellery totalling more than RM180,000.
“All the suspects, aged 21 to 39 have prior criminal and drug records. Based on the urine test, two of them were tested positive for ganja and opium.
“They have been remanded for six days from Feb 14 until Feb 19 to help with the investigation,” he said, adding that the drugs seized could be used by over 52,000 drug users.
Separately, Comm Mior denied a claim on Twitter that the state was rampant with vice activities.
“I can assure you that there are no prostitution activities happening in Perak. There might be gambling activities in several areas but we have taken serious action against them.
“I have instructed OCPDs to take immediate and stern action against these activities if it is happening in their areas,” he said.
On Feb 14, Twitter account @ES_EdisiKhas claimed that several areas in Perak namely Manjung, Batu Gajah and Ipoh have online gambling shops as well as prostitution at entertainment clubs. The account also claimed that no action was taken by the police as they received bribes from criminal syndicates.
“Anyone who has such information can come forward so we can take action. If it is true, we will investigate.
“Don’t just simply say things on social media irresponsibly. If you are afraid to give information, use the right channel where the whistleblower will be protected,” he said.
