TWO friends returning from a wedding in Johor were killed in an accident near Slim River, Malaysia Nanban reported.

       Jeyavarma Yadas Muniandy, 33, and Karthigeyan Chinniah, 27, were returning home to Hutan Melintang when their car crashed into a lorry.

       The victims died at the scene, said Muallim police chief Supt Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman.

       Many Hindu-centric organisations including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling BJP have long opposed Valentine’s Day as immoral. They have also called on the government to ban such celebrations.

       Meanwhile, a trans couple in Kerala celebrated the day by marrying each other, the daily also reported.

       The groom Syama S. Prabha, who works in the IT field, and the bride Manu Karthika, who works for the Kerala Social Justice Department, are both transgenders.

       They tied the knot on Feb 14 in the presence of their families and friends.Marriages between trans people are recognised in India under Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.
