Covid-19: Slight drop in cases in Sabah, new education cluster recorded

       KOTA KINABALU: There has been a drop in Covid-19 cases in Sabah with 4,406 cases reported on Tuesday (Feb 22).

       Minister in charge of Covid-19 matters Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said 4,770 cases were recorded on Monday, which is a drop of 364 cases.

       A total of 472 cases involved children between the ages of five and 11, while 202 cases are those aged five and below, he said.

       A new education related cluster - Kluster Kuala Tongod - with 68 cumulative cases, was also recorded.

       Masidi said out of Tuesday’s statistics, sporadic cases remain the highest at over 62% or 2,757 cases.

       Kota Kinabalu meanwhile has the most cases statewide at 1,077 cases, followed by Penampang (515), Papar (451), Tuaran (402), Tawau (211), Keningau (192), Beaufort (182), Ranau (154), Kota Belud (153) and Sandakan with 151 cases.

       For the new Covid-19 cluster, the case index is an 18-year-old hostel student of SMK Tongod, said Masidi.

       He tested positive on Feb 8.

       His close contacts and those subsequently tested positive have been isolated and given the necessary medical attention.

       Overall, more than 99% (4,377 people) of the latest Covid-19 patients are under Categories One and Two.

       Eight are under Category Three, 13 are under Category Four and eight are under Category Five, Masidi said.

       He said PICKids Sabah have seen a total of 30,614 out of 411,400 children between the ages of 5 and 11, who are eligible for vaccination, immunised against Covid-19.
