BUTTERWORTH: A woman accidentally threw away a purse full of gold jewellery and city council workers did her the biggest favour by searching through the whole dumpster for it.
Her purse - full of gold rings, bracelets and chains - was somehow tossed into the rubbish bin at home and by the time she realised it, the dumpster had already emptied her bin, much to her horror.
Desperate, she rushed to the Seberang Prai City Council's (MBSP) rubbish depot in Tasek Gelugor here and told the workers her predicament.
A rubbish depot is where rubbish collected by several dumpsters are compacted tightly into a special truck to send to the landfill, lowering the transport cost.
Fortunately, the truck containing the rubbish from the dumpster that serviced her neighbourhood had not left, so there was nothing else for it except to empty all the compacted trash and search was made through every cubic feet of the filth.
Incredibly, the workers found her purse, somehow unblemished, and photos of the “orange shirt heroes” who did the good deed started spreading on social media on Sunday (Feb 20).
MBSP's general workers wear orange T-shirts and are frequently called "heroes" in the community.
