PETALING JAYA: Twenty blocks of ganja worth more than RM60,000 were seized following raids in Damansara and Taman Tun Dr Ismail.

       Two men were arrested for allegedly trafficking drugs in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Damansara and Subang Jaya for about two years.

       Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said the first suspect - a 34-year-old man - was arrested in his car at a supermarket's parking lot in Damansara at about 6.30pm on Feb 20.

       "We seized 17 blocks of ganja worth RM53,463 in a box and stored them in the car.

       "The suspect worked as a cook at a restaurant, and we believe he has been trafficking drugs for about two years in Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya," he told a press conference at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters on Thursday (Feb 24).

       The suspect's car was also seized, he added.

       ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said the first arrest led police to a 44-year-old contractor at a house in Taman Tun Dr Ismail at about 7pm on the same day (Feb 20).

       "We found three blocks of ganja weighing 2.9kg.

       "The suspect also tested positive for THC and we also seized the suspect's car," he said.

       Initial investigations revealed that the suspect has been active in trafficking drugs for about two years, he added.

       ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said both raids resulted in 19.1kg of drugs seized worth RM63,099.

       "We believe the first suspect had bought the ganja at RM3,000 per block and supplied it to the second suspect at RM3,300 per block.

       "The second suspect world then cut the ganja further and distributed it at RM32 for a small pack," he said.

       The drugs seized could have been supplied to 19,120 addicts, ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin said.

       "We will step up our operations against the drug menace, but we need the cooperation of the public.

       "We urge those with information on any drug related activity to contact the nearest police station," he said.
