PONTIAN: A pedestrian died on the spot after he was hit by an oncoming car at KM69.8, Jalan Johor Baru-Batu Pahat on Wednesday (Feb 23).
Pontian deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Azri Noraini said the Pontian Police District Traffic Unit received a call regarding the incident at around 11.30am Wednesday.
“The victim was on the left side of the road and believed to be crossing to the other side when he was knocked down by a car," he said in a statement.
DSP Azri said the 63-year-old victim suffered severe head injuries resulting in death while the 30-year old driver escaped unhurt.
He said the driver has been detained under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 to assist with investigations.
The body was sent to the Pontian Hospital for post mortem.
