YONG PENG: Johor was once the wealthiest state in the country under Barisan Nasional's administration, as it was an attractive destination for foreign investors, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president also said that for Johor to remain an attractive state to foreign investors, there must be political stability.
"Political stability is a factor that encourages foreign investors to come to Malaysia," Dr Wee told reporters during a press conference after officiating at MCA's 73rd anniversary celebrations at the Che Ann Khor temple here on Friday (Feb 25).
Dr Wee, who is also Johor MCA Chief, said locals have been through state governments led by both Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional in the past.
"Let the people of Johor judge the performance of Barisan and Pakatan. Most importantly, we need political stability.
"Stability can only be achieved if voters give a big mandate to Barisan," added the Ayer Hitam MP.
Dr Wee also said the caretaker state government did not reflect the diversity of Johor, given the absence of Chinese representation in the state assembly.
"We must reflect the diverse society of Johor," he said.
At the same time, Dr Wee took the opportunity to criticise Pakatan over its unfulfilled election promises in 2018.
"The promises weren't fulfilled and I'm sure that locals can compare Barisan and Pakatan for themselves," added Dr Wee.
Nomination day for the Johor state election is on Feb 26 while polling is on March 12.
