KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Covid-19 numbers remain high at 4,256 new cases on Friday (Feb 25) despite a slight drop from the previous day.

Minister in charge of Covid-19 matters in the state, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, said there was a drop of 636 cases from Thursday (Feb 24).

A total of 517 of Friday's cases were unvaccinated children under the ages of 11, including 237 under five years old, he added.

He said sporadic infections continued to contribute the most to daily cases, at over 65% of the latest statistics.

Masidi said the high numbers especially in areas like Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Papar and Putatan were also due to a backlog in reporting.

"Kota Kinabalu has 1,241 new cases while Papar has 370, Putatan 363, Penampang 345, Tuaran 308, Kota Belud 186, Tawau 165, Sandakan 157, Keningau 144, Beaufort 126, Lahad Datu 113, and Kota Marudu, 100," he said.

He reminded the public to avoid crowded places and maintain high adherence to standard operating procedures to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission.

Meanwhile, Masidi said a total of 41 clusters remain active in the state.

As for Friday’s cases, over 99% or 4,237 are those under Category 1 and 2, nine are in Category 3, four are under Category 4 and six are in Category 5.

For child vaccination or PICKids Sabah, some 36,382 children between five and 11 years old have received at least one dose of vaccine.
