Ad trolls Trump over January 6 committee developments
Former US attorney general Bill Barr says Donald Trump has “shown he has neither the temperament nor persuasive powers to provide the kind of positive leadership that is needed” in a new book.
Mr Barr calls on the Republican Party to move on from Mr Trump and directly blames him for the violence at the US Capitol on 6 January in One Damn Thing After Another.
The former president fired Mr Barr when he refused to go along with his claims that the election had been stolen.
Mr Barr writes that his former boss “lost his grip” after the election, and that his false claims of voter fraud led to the attack on the US Capitol.
On Saturday, Joe Biden laughed off Donald Trump’s praise of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I put as much stock in Trump saying that Putin’s a genius as I do when he called himself a stable genius,” Mr Biden said in an interview released Saturday.
The former president hailed Mr Putin as “smart” and blamed Mr Biden for allowing the invasion to occur.

Show latest update 1646047104 No surprises: CPAC backs Trump for president
A straw poll at this weekend’s CPAC conference showed that for all the rumblings of concern about his legal problems, his flattery of Vladimir Putin and his general unpredictability, Donald Trump still remains far and away the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican nomination.
He garnered some 59 per cent of the informal vote, leaving his nearest rival Ron DeSantis in the dust with 28 per cent. However, in another poll that left Mr Trump off the list, the Florida governor won more than 60 per cent.
Few expect Mr Trump to demur on a re-election campaign, but there is still the possibility that some external problem will stand in his way.

1646044911 GOP Senator on Ukraine: “This is the most dangerous moment in 60 years"
GOP Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who sits on the Senate intelligence committee, has become one of his party’s most outspoken critics of the Russian invasion of Ukraine – this as many Trump allies either minimise what’s happening or question why the US should be involved.
Here’s a sample of some of his recent tweets:

1646042888 ICYMI: Would Trump fight like Zelensky
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has earned worldwide respect by not only speaking out against Russia’s invasion but also picking up arms and fighting it with his people. When asked about this example of bravery at CPAC, Donald Trump would not be drawn about whether he would do the same.

1646040608 Arizona GOP official mangles speech on voter suppression
Republican Arizona State Senator Kelly Townsend was speaking in her state’s upper chamber about new legislation ostensibly meant to prevent voter fraud when she appeared to let the cat out of the bag, instead saying she and her party are working hard to suppress the vote.
After that, she struggled to get back on track and meekly brought her address to a close.

1646038015 Marjorie Taylor Greene defends appearance at white nationalist event
Far-right Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene appeared recently at the America First Political Action Conference, a gathering that featured explicit white nationalism, racism and pro-Russia chants.
As Ben Jacobs reported for Intelligencer:
The Georgia congresswoman’s appearance was introduced shortly after [AFPAC host Nick] Fuentes asked for “a round of applause for Russia” and the crowd chanted “Putin, Putin” in response. In her remarks, Greene hailed the attendees as “canceled Americans” and delivered a familiar set of bromides, condemning abortion, environmentalism, Nancy Pelosi, and Justin Trudeau, while promising the crowd she was currently “working very hard for an American revival.”
Other speakers at the event made an array of racist, homophobic, and anti-Semitic remarks, culminating in Fuentes reiterating his praise for the January 6 attack on the Capitol as “awesome” and celebrating Adolf Hitler. The white nationalist said of the media: “And now they’re going on about Russia and ‘Vladimir Putin is Hitler’ — they say that’s not a good thing,” he said with a smirk.
The Congresswoman, who also appeared at CPAC, has defended her decision to appear at the conference, whose political bent was hardly a secret.

1646033632 Lauren Boebert says Canada and US 'need to be liberated'
Rep Lauren Boebert on Sunday compared the plight of Ukrainians amid a Russian invasion to that of truckers protesting against the vaccine mandates in Canada.
“I pray for Ukraine and I wish them the best. They have a great president right now who has really said clearly, ‘Live free or die.’ He said, ‘I don’t need a ride, give me ammunition. The fight is right here,’” Ms Boebert told Fox News.
She added: “But we also have neighbours to the north who need freedom and need to be liberated and we need that right here at home as well”.
