SEREMBAN: A state executive councillor has asked the people to ignore his "request" for money as his Telegram account has been hacked.
State Environment, Health, Cooperatives and Consumerism Committee chairman S. Veerapan said he would lodge a police report on the matter.
"Please do not entertain any request, supposedly made by me, as my account has been hacked.
"Those behind it are asking money from people I know. I hope whoever receives such requests will ignore them," he said in a statement on Monday (Feb 28).
Veerapan's mobile phone number has also been displayed in the messages sent out to convince the public that it was him asking for money.
In the messages sent out by those involved in the scam, Veerapan allegedly said he needed money as there was a glitch with his online banking account.
He also promised to repay the sum on the following morning.
