KUALA LUMPUR: Any comments on why charges were reduced for the son of tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan's son over a drug-related offence can only come from Attorney General's Chambers, says Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

The Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director said his department was only involved in the investigation process.

"Any issue over the charges is a matter that only the Attorney General Chambers (AGC) can comment on," he told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters on Monday (Feb 28).

Comm Ayob said former attorney general Tan Sri Tommy Thomas had already made a statement on the matter.

"We opened investigations in December 2019.

"We have not received any police reports on this matter," he said.

It was reported that Thomas had denied allegations that he received a bribe to reduce charges on a tycoon's son during his time.

Allegations were made on the Edisi Khas Twitter account, claiming he had dropped criminal charges against Tan's son and that corruption was involved.

In a letter sent to The Vibes on Feb 19, Thomas said he had never paid a bribe nor received any throughout his professional career and personal life.

He added that he did not know Tan prior to his appointment as AG.
