KOTA KINABALU: Police have ruled out foul play in the case of a missing 62-year-old man who was found dead in a vehicle in Kampung Lakang in Tamparuli, about 50km from here.
Tuaran OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Hamizi Halim said the man suffered from dementia and memory lapses.
The victim, reported missing by family members on Saturday, was found dead inside a Proton Persona vehicle at about 7.50pm on Sunday by the car owner.
“The owner reported the discovery of the body after he went to check a foul smell coming from his vehicle parked near his house,” said DSP Mohd Hamizi.
The victim’s wife confirmed that the body was that of the individual reported missing after leaving his house in Kampung Tambalugu, about 2km from where his body was found.
“The victim suffered from dementia and often got into the other vehicle by mistake even though it was not his family’s car,” he said in a media statement.
He added that police did not find any traces of a struggle or a criminal act to suggest foul play. Police have classified the case as sudden death until a full autopsy report is obtained.
