JOHOR BARU: Police have approved 405 permits for political ceramah in regards to the Johor state election.

       State police election spokesman Supt Ibrahim Mat Som said a total of 17 investigation papers (IP) have also been opened between Feb 26 until March 2.

       “On March 2 alone, we approved 36 permits across the state while four IPs have been opened for various offences such as voluntarily causing hurt and causing damage by mischief.

       “The cases will be investigated under Section 323 and Section 427 of the Penal Code, Section 24 (B)(3) of the Elections Offences Act and Regulation 16 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) Regulations for flouting SOP,” he said in a statement on Thursday (March 3).

       Supt Ibrahim reminded members of the public, political parties and their supporters to always abide by the SOP to avoid facing stern action.

       “We also welcome the people to contact us if they have any inquiries during the campaigning period. They can refer to any police personnel on duty for assistance,” he said.
