JOHOR BARU: With one week to go before polling day, a DAP candidate has tested positive for Covid-19.

       Yeo Tung Siong, who will be defending his Pekan Nanas seat, said in a Facebook post that he found out he was infected after a RT-PCR test on Thursday (March 3).

       “On Thursday, I screened myself using a RT-Antigen test, but I tested negative. That evening, I felt unwell.

       “Therefore, I conducted a RT-PCR test, quarantined myself and cancelled a programme.

       He said he stayed at home on Friday (March 4) and at 6pm, he was confirmed positive for Covid-19.

       Yeo said he immediately contacted everyone whom he had come into close contact with.

       “To every close contact, please immediately screen yourself,” added Yeo.

       He also said that as a preventative measure, his election team also quarantined themselves and conducted Covid-19 tests.

       Yeo also said that all his campaign events on Friday (March 4) and Saturday (March 5) have been cancelled.

       “I apologise for the inconvenience caused,” added Yeo.

       Aside from Yeo, those who have tested positive include MCA candidate for Penggaram Ter Hwa Kwong, PKR’s Bukit Batu candidate Arthur Chiong Sern Sen, PKR’s candidate for Larkin Dr Zamil Najwah Arbain and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air initial choice as candidate for Endau, Zaini Tahar.

       Pejuang later changed its candidate from Zaini to Noorhisyam Ibrahim.

       Aside from candidates, many members of the media have contracted Covid-19 since campaigning started last Saturday.
