A rope tied into a noose was discovered Sunday evening at a high school in Loudoun County, the county sheriff’s office said.

       The incident at Independence High School is being investigated, the sheriff’s office said, calling it suspicious. The school is in the Ashburn area.

       A teacher found the rope tied into the shape of a noose attached to a school banner outside the school stadium, the sheriff’s office said.

       Classes were not scheduled at Independence on Monday, which was a countywide staff development day.

       A school system spokesman could not immediately be reached.
