PETALING JAYA: All relevant stakeholders across various sectors must plan ahead and prepare for the reopening of the country's borders on April 1, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The National Recovery Council chairman said immediate efforts must be taken to ensure that the country would be able to welcome international tourists, visitors and investors.

"This will definitely expedite the recovery process of the country," he said at a press conference at an event with TV White Space on Wednesday (March 9).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Tuesday (March 8) announced that the country's borders would be reopened on April 1.

Citing the tourism sector as an example, Muhyiddin said that tour agencies, airline operators, hotels and homestays must also make preparations for the reopening of borders.

He also welcomed the transition to the endemic phase of Covid-19, and hoped all parties will adhere to the eased standard operating procedures (SOP).

"Many of these signs show that the country is heading towards recovery in the near future, God-willing," said Muhyiddin.

Other relaxations of Covid-19 curbs that will be effective April 1 include the removal of the 50% capacity limit for event venues.

Check-ins on MySejahtera will still be required for entry into premises, but exceptions are given to open areas that are not crowded and have no large gatherings.

However, the MYSJTrace function must be used at indoor places with a large number of visitors.
