KOTA TINGGI: The government will be introducing a new concept to help second-generation Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) settlers own houses of their own, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Prime Minister assured second-generation Felda settlers that the government would be addressing housing matters involving the group in Johor by selling lots of land to them to build their own houses.

“The state government has allocated 3,200 housing lots for second-generation Felda settlers,” he said on Wednesday (March 9).

Ismail Sabri was speaking at a press conference after handing over Johor-level Malaysian Family Rukun Tetangga grants, organised by the National Unity Ministry, at the Felda Lok Heng sports community complex here on Wednesday.

He added that Felda would no longer be selling houses that were already completed to the second generation, which was the practice before.

Ismail Sabri said such a concept created many problems for the second-generation settlers, including delays in building houses and that they could not afford to buy such property.

“Previously, Felda would build the houses but it led to issues where the houses could not be bought by the second generation, who are mostly self-employed and do not have payslips.

“This creates problems as their applications will mostly get rejected by banks and lead to difficulties in getting their own homes.

“This is why we are introducing a new concept by selling land lots to the second generation to allow them to build their dream homes,” he added.
