KUALA LUMPUR: For the family of A. Magindran, one of the victims in the landslide at Taman Bukit Permai 2, Ampang here on Thursday (March 10), his 37th birthday gathering on Feb 16 was the last time they met him.
His sister, A. Devi, 40, only learnt of the disaster at about 10pm after being told by Magindran’s friend that her brother, who was at work in the area, was trapped at the scene.
"After getting the news, I immediately called Magindran, but there was no response. I called his supervisor, who confirmed that my brother was among those buried in the landslide.
"The last time my family and I met Magindran was at his 37th birthday celebration last month.
"Since he was working in Kuala Lumpur, and his family lives in Teluk Intan, Perak, we only met him once a month," she said when met at the Forensic Department of Hospital Ampang here Friday (March 11).
Devi said the family presented Magindran with a gold ring on his birthday and that was her last memory with her brother.
She said Magindran left behind a wife and a nine-year-old son.
Meanwhile, at the hospital's Forensic Department, family members of the landslide victims were waiting to enter the premises since 9am.
It is learnt that the bodies of the four victims could only be claimed by next-of-kin after the post-mortem and Covid-19 screening had been completed.
Four people died and one person was injured in the incident.
The landslide also affected 15 homes and 10 vehicles. – Bernama
