A woman was fatally shot Thursday evening and was found in a vehicle with two small children inside in Northeast Washington, D.C. police said.

       Officers located the woman, who was unconscious and not breathing, in the 1800 block of Benning Road just after 6 p.m., said Officer Sean Hickman, a police spokesman. The children were unharmed, Hickman said. Their ages and genders were not released.

       Investigators released no details about the circumstances of the shooting.

       Officials said officers were searching for two males dressed in black who were last seen westbound toward Gales Street NE.

       No further information was immediately available.
