24/7 Wall Street website publishes list of 25 countries

KUWAIT CITY, March 12: The 24/7 Wall Street website has published a list of 25 countries that purchase mostly American weapons. In this list, Kuwait was ranked 22nd position, and second last among the Gulf countries, reports Al-Rai daily. The website explained that Kuwait, during the period between 2010 and 2020, purchased weapons worth $ 1.37 billion from the United States of America. The imports of arms from the USA constituted 75.4 percent of the total during the same period.

In contrast, military spending in Kuwait amounted to $ 6.94 billion in 2020, or 6.5 percent of GDP. Oman ranked 25th in the world and bought weapons worth $0.78 billion during the period between 2010 and 2020. Morocco ranked 17th globally, spending $2.09 billion for buying American weapons during the aforementioned period.

       Spending

Egypt came in 15th place, spending $ 2.56 billion. Qatar came in 11th place with $ 3.33 billion worth of US arms imports, Iraq in 8th place with $ 3.87 billion, and the UAE in 4th place for importing weapons worth $7.11 billion. Topping them all is Saudi Arabia, which turned out to be the largest importer of American weapons in the world with a value of $ 17.61 billion.

Its import of American weapons constituted 64.8 percent of the total. The website further explained that the United States is the world’s largest exporter of arms, shipping arms worth nearly $9.4 billion to nearly 100 different countries around the world in 2020 alone.

In recent years, 22 countries spent more than $1 billion buying weapons from the United States. Since 2010, the US arms manufacturers have shipped weapons worth more than $105 billion worldwide. These weapons went to strategic allies in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and elsewhere.

The United States is not the only supplier of arms, as many of these importing countries buy large quantities of arms from Russia, China, and other countries. Although the United States has the largest military budget in the world, it does not have the largest military in the world when it comes to personnel. In fact, the United States ranks fifth with at least one million members of the armed forces.
