KUALA LUMPUR: Stop pitting Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob against one another as it could cause the party’s downfall, said an Umno Youth delegate.
Hayazi Azizan, who is Kedah Umno Youth secretary, said creating fights between factions would only lead to unwanted conflicts and feuds within the party.
"Both the president and the prime minister are our great leaders. They are the party’s precious jewels and we need to protect them. Stop pitting them against one another.
"There are hundreds of media personnel covering us at the Umno general assembly now. They want to see us fight among each other," said Hayazi during the Umno Youth policy speech debates.
Hayazi also said there have been certain movements trying to plot Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki and his deputy Shahril Hamdan against each other.
"We hear all kinds of things about our two leaders. There’s talk about this camp and that camp. This and that scheme.
"We are heading into the 15th general election and what we want is for both of them to be alongside each other.
"Stop adding fuel to the fire. If both of them start battling each other, who would lose? It would be no one else but ourselves," said Hayazi.
The Jerlun Umno Youth chief said Umno was a strong party but its biggest enemy was its own self.
"Umno has existed since 1946. If it was not a strong party it would never have survived this long. However, what can bring us down is our own selves.
"So let other people say whatever they want about us, but we must not show our weaknesses to our opponents," said Hayazi.
