Police said the crash occurred about 5:20 p.m. at Georgia Avenue and Howard Place NW, near the Howard University campus.
The investigation showed the driver of a Toyota Sienna van was heading south on Georgia Avenue and was turning left onto Howard Place when it collided with a 2019 Yamaha motorcycle, according to police.
Police said in a statement the operator of the motorcycle was traveling “at an excessive rate of speed.” Police did not elaborate, or say if Thomas was operating the motorcycle or was a passenger.
Thomas died at a hospital, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
