KUALA LUMPUR: Umno must learn from the downfall of Pakatan Harapan and stay united as a party, says a delegate.
Perak Umno representative Datuk Dr Azhar Ahmad said during the debates at the party's general assembly that the coalition failed as was conflict between their leaders – something Umno should avoid.
"Their unity failed when the leaders stopped trusting each other. Umno only became the government because of Pakatan's failure to unite," he said on Saturday (March 19).
Dr Azhar also called on Umno leaders to stay united before the next general election.
"As long as leaders are united, we can even call for the election tomorrow.
"We might be ready to return the mandate to the rakyat in the general election, but the question is would the rakyat give the mandate back to us," said Dr Azhar.
The 2021 Umno general assembly has been going on since Wednesday (March 16) and will end on Saturday at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
