NEW YORK, March 24 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar rose in late trading on Thursday as market participants are betting on more aggressive policy tightening from the Federal Reserve amid high inflation.

       The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, increased 0.17 percent at 98.7890.

       In late New York trading, the euro was down to 1.1004 U.S. dollars from 1.1013 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound decreased to 1.3182 dollars from 1.3208 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar was up to 0.7513 U.S. dollar from 0.7508 dollar.

       The U.S. dollar bought 122.25 Japanese yen, higher than 121.12 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.9303 Swiss franc from 0.9307 Swiss franc, and it fell to 1.2548 Canadian dollars from 1.2561 Canadian dollars.
