KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno ministers who gathered at a hotel in Putrajaya on Friday (March 25) were there just to have a chat over breakfast, not to talk about dissolving Parliament, says Khairy Jamaluddin.
"(Umno supreme council member) Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican paid for the breakfast. It had nothing to do with dissolving Parliament.
"We just had not met for a long time, so we decided to just catch up," said the Health Minister.
Khairy was speaking at a press conference after a working visit to the Malaysian Red Crescent for discussions on the implementation of the nationwide Ambulance Hotspot Service led by the Health Ministry in cooperation with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society and St John Ambulance of Malaysia on Friday.
It was reported earlier that several ministers had met at a hotel in Putrajaya as early as 8am, sparking all manner of speculation.
Among the ministers present were Khairy, Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Sadique and Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.
Also present were Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad and Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican.
At the recently concluded Umno general assembly, delegates had pushed for national polls to be held as soon as possible.
Following the defeat of the government's motion to continue with powers to detain suspects for up to 28 days without trial under Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) in Dewan Rakyat, several Umno leaders have called for the memorandum of understanding between Pakatan Harapan and the government to be revoked.
