BUKIT MERTAJAM: A man is in his 50s was injured after the truck driven by him turned turtle on Monday (March 28) afternoon and spilt chemicals on the road.
The Penang Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call at 4pm and added that when the firefighters arrived at the scene at Simpang Tiga Pondok Labu here, there was a road accident involving a five-ton truck carrying seven barrels of sulfuric acid.
“Each barrel was 1,500 litres, and two barrels leaked and spilt on the side of the road. The work of identifying other chemicals spilt is being done and assisted by the company,” said the department in a statement.
It also said that the driver managed to get out of his vehicle and suffered head injuries.
“The victim was taken to hospital for further treatment,” it said.
