The life of Prince Philip is to be celebrated with a special memorial service on Tuesday at Westminster Abbey almost a year after his death in April 2021.

       The Duke of Edinburgh passed away on April 9, 2021, at Windsor Castle at the age of 99. He narrowly missed turning 100 years old in June that year.

       Prince Philip was Britain's longest-serving royal consort, supporting the Queen for 70 years after leaving active military service when Elizabeth ascended the throne in 1952.

       In 2021, Buckingham Palace issued a statement confirming the memorial service, saying: "The Queen has agreed that a Service of Thanksgiving for the life of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh will take place in the spring of 2022 at Westminster Abbey."

       Aside from being where every English and British monarch has been crowned since 1066, Westminster Abbey was also where the Queen and Prince Philip married in 1947.

       The service is set to honour Prince Philip's work in support of the Queen and his role championing charities across the country and Commonwealth.

       Palace staff are currently considering travel arrangements for the Queen - who has been forced to pull out of recent public events due to mobility problems.

       Prince Philip's memorial service will take place on Tuesday March 29, 2022 and will be held at Westminster Abbey.

       The service will be broadcast live on TV and online. BBC One will be televising the ceremony from 10.30am until 12.15pm on Tuesday - with the service available to watch on iPlayer afterwards.

       Huw Edwards, the BBC news anchor, will be leading the broadcast. He previously led the coverage of Prince Philip's funeral last year.
