DOHA: Agrico Qatar has pledged an investment of US$360mil (RM1.5bil) to Malaysia in a letter of commitment handed over to Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob during his visit to the country.
The letter was delivered by the company’s chairman Ahmed Hussain Al-Khalaf in a brief ceremony yesterday in conjunction with the Malaysian Prime Minister’s visit to Agrico’s organic vegetable, mushroom and shrimp farm in Al Khor, about 50km north of here, Bernama reported.
Also present were International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup and Federal Land Development Authority chairman Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.
Earlier, the Prime Minister and the Malaysian delegation visited the Baladna Farm owned by Baladna Food Industries.
He was welcomed upon arrival by Baladna Food Industries Group chairman Moutaz Al-Khayyat and its managing director Ramez Al-Khayyat.
Ismail Sabri was also briefed on the company by its independent board member Aidan Tynan.
The Malaysian delegation was also taken on a tour of Baladna’s state-of-the-art production of quality milk from Holstein cows using the most advanced rotary milking parlour.
Also present was Qatar’s Environment and Climate Change Minister Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmad Al-Thani.
Today, Ismail Sabri will have an audience with the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani before proceeding to an official luncheon hosted in his honour at Amiri Diwan.
Strengthening of the Malaysia-Qatar long-standing and multi-faceted cooperation will be high on the agenda as the two leaders chart a way forward in economic collaboration as well as other post-pandemic recovery efforts.
