KUALA LUMPUR: The team of doctors and officials involved in treating former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during his recent illness were feted at an appreciation ceremony on Monday (March 28).
Dr Mahathir also took time to present certificates of appreciation to them during the event that was held at Yayasan Kepimpinan Perdana, Putrajaya.
“I have no idea how I can thank you all... the specialist doctors, doctors, their assistants from the National Heart Institute (IJN) and other hospitals who treated me while I was sick.
“I am at the end of my journey but I don’t know how the doctors managed to help me regain my health, to me it is a miracle.
“I didn’t expect to live, I expected that I would die because I am old and I am also suffering from a serious disease,” he said in a speech that he gave in front of the group and later uploaded to his YouTube account.
Dr Mahathir said even though he is not 100% healed, he is grateful and happy to continue whatever little work that he has left to do.
In January, Dr Mahathir underwent an elective medical procedure. He was discharged from IJM on Feb 4.
Prior to that, he had gone for a full check-up on Dec 16, 2021.
