PETALING JAYA: Questions regarding the appointment of MySJ Sdn Bhd as the licensee of the MySejahtera app will be answered in detail in the Dewan Negara tomorrow, Khairy Jamaluddin has pledged.
The Health Minister said he has submitted a request to Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim to allow the MySejahtera issue to be debated in the Senate as the issue was important.
He said there have been many arguments over the app which could create misunderstanding.
“I have nothing to hide. Those who are not familiar with this may not have read up on it in full and continue to raise the same issue.
“I understand this is an important issue involving personal data, and so it’s better for me to answer (the questions) in the Senate,” Bernama quoted him as saying during a working visit to Hospital Port Dickson yesterday.
Khairy was asked to comment on the statement by Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan who had expressed concern over the appointment of a private entity, MySJ, through direct negotiation rather than an open tender exercise to manage the next phase of the MySejahtera app.
Khairy said the appointment of KPISoft (M) Sdn Bhd to manage the MySejahtera app was implemented by the National Security Council (NSC) at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019.
“I was made to understand that the NSC had invited several companies to give a presentation on the application.
“The NSC chose KPISoft which was rebranded as Entomo Malaysia Sdn Bhd, which gave a licence to MySJ.
“So we were negotiating with the company that provided the services from the very beginning as they were the ones who developed the platform,” he added.
On the company’s appointment, Khairy said it is now in the process of becoming an official contract.
He added that the government will maintain the use of MySejahtera for the next month or two.
“When the situation has stabilised, it may be the right time for us to stop using MySejahtera.
“Like Tok Mat (Mohamad) said, we have become a surveillance state, and that is not right. We have used MySejahtera for public health purposes. The Health Ministry knows when to stop using the application,” he said.
