JOHOR BARU: An assistant officer with a government agency was nabbed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here for allegedly being involved in corruption.

       According to an MACC source, the 32-year-old suspect had asked and received a bribe of RM20,000.

       He was arrested at 12.30pm on Thursday (April 7) after having his statement recorded at the MACC office in Johor Baru.

       The source added that, between 2020 and 2021, the man had been working as a management officer at a government department.

       He is believed to have requested and received the bribe from two project consultants as inducement to reveal information on the project the duo had applied for.

       State MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

       It is learnt the suspects would be remanded tomorrow (April 8) at the Magistrate's Court here.
