KUALA LUMPUR: Wanted fugitive Nicky Liow Soon Hee (pic), who has been on the run since last year, has surrendered to police.
The 34-year-old founder of the Winner Dynasty Group gave himself up at the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) headquarters at Menara KPJ, Jalan Tun Razak, at about 11am yesterday.
Liow has been on the run since Ops Pelican 3.0 in March last year which saw 68 Nicky gang members arrested in various swoops.
A manhunt was launched for him, which culminated in an Interpol Red Notice issued on April 20.
Police want him to face charges related to organised crime, money laundering, Macau scams and commercial crime.
An Interpol red notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and detain persons of interest.
It is issued by the General Secretariat following the request of a member country or an international tribunal.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Razarudin Husain said: “Liow is being investigated for over 20 Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act (Amlatfa) cases.
“He will be brought to the Shah Alam court tomorrow to face 26 charges.
“On March 23, the court issued a warrant of arrest for Liow,” he said.
Liow became a hunted man after Johor police conducted a large-scale operation and raids in Puchong, Selangor, before arresting 12 individuals, including a Datuk Seri.
The syndicate is suspected of being involved in various cheating and online scams.
The operation against Liow, whose company is based in Setiawalk Puchong, Selangor, and his accomplices, codenamed Ops Pelican, was spearheaded by Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, who was then Johor police chief.
The dragnet to nail Liow also saw policemen and graft-busters being arrested for suspected links to the infamous Nicky Gang.
Police arrested 10 of their own men and two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officers, including an assistant commissioner.
The police officers were based in Bukit Aman (two), Selangor (four), Kuala Lumpur (two) and one each from Negri Sembilan and Melaka.
The 12 enforcement officers were investigated under Section 130V to Section 130ZB of the Penal Code and the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma) 2012.
Liow’s Datuk Seri title was also revoked by the Pahang palace on April 21 last year.
Also revoked was the Datuk title conferred on his brother, Liow Wei Loon.
