Multiple people shot in Brooklyn subway station_1.mp4
A manhunt is now underway for a gunman wearing a gas mask and MTA clothing who opened fire and detonated explosive devices on a Brooklyn subway during Tuesday morning’s rush hour.
At least 13 people were injured - at least five of them shot - in the shock incident that unfolded at around 8:30am at the 36th Street and Fourth Avenue station in Sunset Park, as crowds of New Yorkers commuted to work in Manhattan.
The FDNY said that it was called to reports of smoke at the station and discovered multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds.
The extent of the victims’ injuries remains unclear, but NBC New York reported that two of the shooting victims are seriously wounded. It is not clear at this time if the shooting was random or targeted.
Police are now hunting for a suspect who was described as a Black male, wearing a gas mask, MTA uniform and carrying a book bag. The NYPD said at around 10am that there are no active explosive devices on the scene.
People are being advised to stay away form the area.

An eyewitness has described the chaos that unfolded on Tuesday morning as panicked subway riders fled from the gunfire.
Danny Mastrogiorgio, a Brooklyn resident, told The Independent’s Richard Hall from the scene of the shooting that he and his son take the train to the 36 Street station every day as his son’s school is close by.
“I saw people running up the stairs, running down the street. A guy from the MTA came out waving his arms, trying to get the cops to come down,” he said. “Eventually a bunch of ambulances pulled up. I saw them take one guy with a leg wound. They had him in the middle of the street there before the ambulance got him.”
Mr Mastrogiorgio said his son is currently in lockdown at his school. “It’s disturbing. I got a four-year-old boy I dropped off down the street. I just got off the train. We take this train every day. I would have been on the train with him,” he said. “I’m a lifelong New Yorker, I tend not to over react to crime things, but it’s bad.”
