BUTTERWORTH: A motorcyclist has been killed in an accident with a car along Jalan Penaga here.

       North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Radzi Ahmad said police received information from the public about a road accident involving two vehicles at around 5.45pm on Tuesday (April 12).

       “The accident involved a motorcycle and a car.

       “The accident is believed to have occurred when the motorcycle, coming from the direction of Penaga towards Jalan Pasir Gebu, tried to overtake the vehicle in front of him by entering the oncoming lane.

       “It is believed that he skidded and fell, (and) at the same time the car suddenly came from the opposite direction.

       “The driver did not manage to stop in time and hit the motorcycle.

       “The motorcyclist died at the scene from severe head injuries.

       “Further investigation will be conducted under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said on Wednesday (April 13).

       In a separate case, ACP Mohd Radzi said a car caught fire after hitting a Tenaga Nasional Berhad utility pole and veering into a drain.

       “Police received information on the road accident at Jalan Permatang Tok Brain, Penaga at around 7.45am on Wednesday.

       “The accident involved a car.

       “It is believed to have occurred when the car, coming from the direction of Permatang Tok Brain heading towards Jalan Kota Aur, collided with a TNB pole and went into the drain before catching fire.

       “The driver complained of chest pain and was treated at Hospital Kepala Batas while the two passengers were unhurt.

       “Further investigation will be conducted under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules,” he added.
