Eight suspected pickpockets arrested, items worth RM37,000 seized

       KUALA LUMPUR: Police have crippled a gang of pickpockets with the arrest of several foreigners.

       Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the Dang Wangi CID was alerted about a case where an individual lost two credit cards at a premises along Jalan Ampang here following a report on April 10.

       "Investigations revealed the victim was pickpocketed at around 6pm a day earlier.

       "At around 8pm Sunday (April 10), a police team arrested five men and three women aged between 22 and 38.

       "They were all foreigners, and were suspected to be involved in pickpocketing cases," he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 13).

       He said following the arrest, police seized five cellphones, three pairs of shoes, 10 shirts, a hat, two bags, a face mask, two belts, 24 toiletry products, and eight purchase slips involving credit cards.

       "The items seized were estimated to be worth RM37,000.

       "The suspects have been remanded for two days to assist further investigations," he said.

       ACP Noor Dellhan advised the public to be vigilant and cautious while at public places to avoid becoming victims of pickpockets.
