PETALING JAYA: With PKR polls on the way, a fight is shaping up to lead the Setiawangsa branch involving two big names – Datuk Afdlin Shauki take on Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

       Afdlin, a celebrity from the entertainment world, confirmed his candidacy when contacted and said he is driven by a passion to serve the people.

       “Party grassroots have voiced out that Setiawangsa PKR needed to rejuvenate its engagement with the people.

       “With that in mind, my candidacy (as branch chief) will give party members the option of a candidate who does not have any political baggage,” said Afdlin, who joined PKR last year.

       “There is no ill-feeling between us and I only have the utmost respect for him (Nik Nazmi),” he said.

       Nik Nazmi also confirmed he is running for the post and said he welcomed a healthy contest.

       “I am confident candidates will use this platform to bring forth various initiatives to ensure PKR’s success moving forward,” said Nik Nazmi, who is also gunning for a party vice-president post.

       The PKR elections for the 2022-2025 term will take place from May 13-19.
