Equities get boost from strong start to US corporate earnings season

       KUALA LUMPUR: The domestic market picked up on Wall Street's strong performance overnight as US corporate earnings helped to shore up equities prices after a recent decline.

       At 9.05am, the FBM KLCI was up 4.39 points to 1,601.57. The overall market was positive as the the number of gainers dwarfed decliners 208 to 67.

       OVernight, Wall Street rebounded with the Dow Jones recovering all of its previous session's losses ahead of the Good Friday public holiday.

       Embattled technology stocks were seen rebounding with the start of the 1Q22 earnings season, lifting the tech-heavy Nasdaq by over 2%.

       On the Malaysian bourse, Petronas Chemicals rose 12 sen to RM10.38, Sime Darby Plantation gained 10 sen to RM5.40 and Press Metal gained one sen to RM6.47.

       Bank stocks stayed neutral to negative with Maybank and Public Bank reamining unchanged while CIMB shed 10 sen to RM5.18.

       MISC Meanwhile rose five sen to RM7.70.

       In the tech sector, stocks rose on the back of the Nasdaq's strong advance. MPI gained 62 sne to RM33.16 and Vitrox climved nine sen to RM7.78.

       Top actives were TWL unchanged at 8.5 sen, SCIB up three sen to 25.5 sen and China Ouhua Winery flat at 8.5 sen.
