PETALING JAYA: Despite the calls by Umno, the memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the government will still be enforced until Parliament is dissolved, says Pakatan Harapan.

       PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said there were two significant points under the agreement: the expiry of the MOU and the dissolution of Parliament.

       “The MOU will be enforced until Parliament is dissolved,” he told a press conference yesterday when asked to respond to Umno’s call not to extend the MOU with Pakatan once it expires.

       On Thursday, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the decision not to renew the MOU was decided by the party supreme council after taking into account the current political landscape.

       Fahmi, who is a member of the MOU steering committee, said the government had agreed not to dissolve Parliament before July 31.

       “In terms of mechanism, it will start as a Cabinet decision.

       “The decision will then be brought to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for his consideration by the Prime Minister. The final decision lies with the King.

       “So, if there are any other matters involving early dissolution of Parliament or issues outside the MOU, it must be discussed among all parties,” he said.
