Covid-19 Watch: 6,069 new cases on Tuesday (April 19), 10,619 recoveries

       PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 6,069 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (April 19), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,402,234 infections since the pandemic began.

       The Health Ministry's CovidNow portal reported that 5,959 of Tuesday's new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while 110 imported infections were logged.

       Recoveries continued to outpace new infections, with 10,619 patients recovering on Tuesday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,274,746 since the pandemic began.

       The portal also reported that there were 92,039 active cases currently in the country, with 89,698, or 97.5%, observing home quarantine and 256 individuals, or 0.3%, admitted to low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.

       The CovidNow portal reported that 2,085 patients, or 2.26% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 97, with 64 of these patients requiring ventilation support.

       The ICU utilisation rate nationwide stood at 51.5%, with five states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

       Kelantan had the highest ICU utilisation rate at 66.5%, followed by Kedah (65.8%), Kuala Lumpur (64.9%), Selangor (64.1%) and Johor (63.2%).

       A total of 12 Covid-19 deaths were reported on Tuesday, of which 1 was classified as brought-in-dead (BID).

       This brought the death toll to 35,449.
